These snacks definitely aren't a healthy option, to some they may seem "healthier" but the ingredient lists probably has numerous things that you have never heard of or things that are unhealthy for you. While some of the options might be better for you than say a snickers bar it isn't the healthiest.
ReplyDeleteI would love a healthy vending machine with the following: Fruits, Veggies, Nuts, Protein Shakes/Smoothies, eggs, Protein bars, something chocolate too for my sweet tooth in the afternoons :).
Thank you for your entry! I will add it to the others! :-)
DeleteI don't know if there is such a thing as a 'healthy' vending machine. The vending machine is correct though, it is healthier than the options in a standard vending machine. I saw flaming hot funyuns in the last one I walked by (shiver). Having trail-mix and granola bars (even if they are full of corn syrup) are still better options than the deep-fried, sugar-packed options in most vending machines. It's a processing issue. The products in vending machines are full of preservatives so they can sit at room temperature and last until each item has been purchased. Healthy vending machines would need to be temperature controlled AND monitored to ensure they are running at the right temperature. A better idea than a vending machine? Community gardens. Pick the ripeness you want straight off of the plant. Indoors and out.Fruits and veggies. Maybe this defeats the purpose of a vending machine, but it would reduce packaging and preservation needs while providing nutritious snacks for the passerby.
