My pick for healing battle wounds and scars! Emu Oil!

I crashed my bike a few summers ago and banged up my shoulder as you can see in the photo below. I applied emu oil for a few weeks and now there is no visible scar!

I also used it recently after my car accident when the air bag did this to my arm.

Emu oil is taken from the fat of the emu, a flightless bird native to Australia that resembles an ostrich. The fat is composed mainly fatty acids including Omegas 3, 6, and 9. Thousands of years ago, the aborigines of Australia, known to be one of the oldest groups of people on Earth, were the first to use emu fat and oil to treat skin infections. Since then, emu oil has become so popular that doctors recommend it for the treatment of burns and other skin conditions. When used topically and orally, emu oil is known to possess anti-inflammatory properties that can help treat a number of health issues, including muscle pain, migraines and skin conditions.

I picked some up at my local natural food co-op in Minneapolis, but you can also order it online in my Amazon store: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0051N4SU4/?ref=exp_loc_pl_optimumwellness&th=1

I highly recommend it for any type of burns, cuts, or scrapes!

Sugar Cravings?

Eat sour and fermented foods!

This is the trick of the trade. When you crave the sugar taste, hit it with its opposite. Eat sour, fermented foods and beverages like sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, and apple cider vinegar. These foods give you a blast of probiotics, enzymes, and nutrients to cut sugar cravings. Look for them at your local health food store or make your own at home!

Jackie's Health Tip of the Week 4/16/17

Inflammation is not only the mechanism of pain, including achy muscles and swollen joints, but is also the root cause of many other health concerns, including autoimmune diseases, infections, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and obesity.

To reduce inflammation avoid or reduce foods including sugar, high-glycemic foods, trans fat, processed and refined foods, and all foods you are individually allergic or sensitive: Common culprits included gluten, dairy, soy, corn, eggs, and nightshades.

A good night's sleep, stress management, and regular exercise can decrease inflammation!

Supplements to consider: Tart cherry juice, Boswellia, and Turmeric.  Please reach out if you would like more information or would like to be tested for possible food allergies or intolerances.

Easter is for EGGS

6:50 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

Easter time always makes me think of eggs! These were a hit at my co-op class last month about snacks! Quick and easy to make and packed full of protein and healthy fats! The avocado is a much better alternative than using traditional mayonnaise and the hot sauce kicks it up a notch! Try them and let me know what you think!

GUACAMOLE DEVILED EGGS

Ingredients: (all organic if possible)
4 eggs, hard-boiled
1 avocado
2 tsp hot sauce
1 tsp lemon juice
Sea salt (optional)
Freshly ground black pepper

Directions:
  1. Peel hard-boiled eggs and cut in half length-wise.  Spoon out yolks into a small bowl.
  1. Mash yolks with avocado, hot sauce and lemon juice.  Season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  1. Refill egg whites with the yolk mixture.
