A Taste of August

School Supply Drive:

I'm feeling pretty blessed this month! I want to thank all my clients who purchased school supplies for my annual School Supply Drive! We filled two backpacks this year! The supplies were donated to a local school here in my South Minneapolis neighborhood.

Co-op Explorers Program:

At the beginning of August I taught a children's class at Valley Natural Foods Co-op in Burnsville, MN. We talked all about grapes, kiwi, bananas, and eating healthy! The kids then got to make banana sushi, kiwi turtles, and an art activity using recycled bubble wrap. I will be teaching a parent's class at the Co-op in September. Date TBA.

Corporate Wellness:

I recently signed a contract with a local company in St. Louis Park to come in a few days a month to discuss a health topic and have individual nutrition/wellness consultations with the employees.  This month the topic was dinner! I put together healthy lunch bags for their delivery drivers and gave three presentations to the sales and production crews.  Here are a few photos I took of the goodies and a shot of the amazing commercial kitchen space I have the opportunity to use! Please follow me on Facebook for the recipes: Optimum Wellness LLC

DIY Massage Oil

I made my own body/massage oil this past weekend with just a few simple ingredients! Mix together jojoba oil, a few drops of vitamin E oil, and 30-60 drops of any essential oil or mixture of oils of your choosing. Pour into a dark glass bottle. I had everything at home except the blue glass bottle which I purchased at the local food coop for $1.99. Great for moisturizing the skin straight out of the shower or use when massaging!

Is Your Makeup "Clean"?

7:06 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

Above is a what you are putting on your skin and getting absorbed into your body if you use conventional makeup!  You literally EAT what you put on your skin. Women bombard themselves daily with chemicals and toxins from the moment they wake up to when they lay down in bed at night.  When you look at the ingredient list on your cosmetics and skin care products you should be able to pronounce and identify what each and every ingredient is. If you don't recognize something it is more than likely a chemical.

A few signs and symptoms that are linked to chemical and toxin overload:

*I offer two very affordable detox services including a toxicity assessment where we can pinpoint what toxins you are putting in, on, and around your body.  After your appointment you will walk away less toxic and with a whole list of natural alternatives to use! (I do not sell products, just services, health, and education) :-)  Interested? Please contact me for more information! 712.790.5883 or Jackie@OptimimWellnessMN.com

A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose

9:49 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

I finished another book this week! If it resonates with you go ahead and buy it. Read a few pages and if it doesn't make sense to you go ahead and put it back on the shelf.  You may not be ready to read it yet at this time in your life. (and that is quite alright!) I purchased the book a few years ago and it was over my head but pulled it back out a few weeks ago and couldn't put it down!!

A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose- Eckhart Tolle

With his bestselling spiritual guide The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle inspired millions of readers to discover the freedom and joy of a life lived "in the now." In A New Earth, Tolle expands on these powerful ideas to show how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world. Tolle describes how our attachment to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and unhappiness, and shows readers how to awaken to a new state of consciousness and follow the path to a truly fulfilling existence.

A Few Important Passages That Struck Me:

"The past lives in you as memories, but memories in themselves are not a problem. In fact, it is through memory that we learn from the past and from past mistakes.  It is only when memories, that is to say, thoughts about the past, take you over completely that they turn into a burden, turn problematic, and become part of your sense of self.  Your personality, which is conditioned by the past, then becomes your prison.  Your memories are invested with a sense of self, and your story becomes who you perceive yourself to be.  This "little me" is an illusion that obscures your true identity as timeless and formless Presence."

"If the thought of lack--whether it be money, recognition, or love--has become part of who you think you are, you will always experience lack.  Rather than acknowledge the good that is already in your life, all you see is lack.  Acknowledging the good that is already in your life is the foundation of all abundance.  The fact is: Whatever you think the world is withholding from you, you are withholding from the world.  You are withholding it because deep down you think you are small and that you have nothing to give.

"Your life has an inner purpose and an outer purpose. Inner purpose concerns Being and is primary.  Outer purpose concerns doing and is secondary.  Your inner purpose is to awaken.  It is as simple as that. You share that purpose with every other person on the planet-- because it is the purpose of humanity.  Your inner purpose is an essential part of the purpose of the whole, the universe and its emerging intelligence.  Your outer purpose can change over time.  It varies greatly from person to person.  Finding and living in alignment with the inner purpose is the foundation for fulfilling your outer purpose.  It is the basis of true success.  Without alignment, you can still achieve certain things through effort, struggle, determination, and sheer hard work or cunning. But there is no joy in such endeavor, and it invariably ends in some form of suffering.

**This book will really make you question life and what you are doing each day! We all have a purpose on this Earth. It's your job and duty to spread your strengths with the world!
