Tasty Balls

3:53 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

I had a little too much fun making these delicious, no refined sugar treats for my future sister-in-law's bridal shower tomorrow! I don't like to follow recipes and the mixture ended up less solid than anticipated, so I improvised and added more coconut so they would stick together. I'm calling them Raw Chocolate Snowballs! Watch out, they are addicting!! LOL! Bet you can't eat just one! ;-)

Raw Chocolate Snowballs

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups chopped raw walnuts
Pinch of  sea salt
1 cup pitted unsweetened dates
1 tsp real vanilla
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup unsweetened coconut

Instructions:

-Add walnuts and salt to a blender or food processor. Mix until the walnuts are finely ground.
-Add the dates, vanilla, and cocoa powder to the blender. Mix well until everything is combined. -With the blender still running, add a couple drops of water at a time to make the mixture stick together.
-Using a spatula, transfer the mixture into a bowl. Using your hands, form small round balls, and then roll them in the coconut to cover.
-Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Human Connection-One Thing I am Thankful For

3:18 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

I'm a true believer in the statement that "things happen for a reason." I look at my past and current life and can pinpoint exactly why people, opportunities, and setbacks have been placed in front of me. It's crazy to think I'm 30 years old and living in my parent's basement, but I know I am back here in Iowa to serve a predestined purpose and it's just part of my journey.  I went on a few dates with a guy last week and when I told him I lived with my parents and why, he responded, "That is very responsible of you." I was a tad shocked but it's exactly what I needed to hear! I'd never thought of it that way.

Sometimes we have to take a few steps back before we can move forward in life.  Numerous people have crossed my path who have shaped and molded my very being. I think and reflect continuously on experiences and the woman I have become.  Friends have filtered through the years and I know the majority will never forget me as I will never forget them! Human connection and love are tied to our energy flow

I am so grateful for all the friends both young and old I've had over the past 12 years. From high school, to college, to Carroll, Minneapolis, and now back around my hometown. They have taught me lessons and reminded me time and time again to love and believe in myself. They loved me when I was negative, crabby, and at my lowest weight ready to give up altogether.  I've visited friends in my pajamas multiple times just for a hug and therapeutic crying session...

Real friends are non-judgmental, honest, accepting, and show unconditional love. Here are a few photos of friends who have impacted me tremendously! If your are not pictured please do not hold it against me, I just couldn't find a decent photo of us together on my Facebook! LOL!! ;-)  Some I haven't talked to in years but wanted you to know I think of you often. Thank you for everything!! You know who you are!!  LOVE YOU!! HUGS!

Apple Cider Vinegar for Acne

12:58 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

I came home last night and my mom had bought a jug of apple cider! She usually makes hot apple cider with cinnamon for the holidays in a coffee pot and it got me thinking about the apple cider vinegar (ACV) that I use daily. Braggs is the best brand to use; it is organic, raw, unfiltered, unheated, unpasteurized and contains the "mother" which is the dark, cloudy substance that is formed from naturally occurring pectin and apple residues - it appears as molecules of protein connected in strand-like chains. The presence of the mother shows that the best part of the apple has not been destroyed.

It has multiple uses but here is what I have used it for:

-Produce Wash

Rather than buying "produce wash" from the grocery store, mix 4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with a gallon of cold water, and use it to rinse your produce free of bugs, dirt, and pesticides.

-Teeth Whitener

Apple cider vinegar can remove stains in your kitchen and bathroom—and the same theory applies to your teeth. To remove stains, rub or scrub apple cider vinegar directly onto your teeth. (I use a toothpaste  powder with baking soda and peroxide that naturally whiten my teeth)

-Shiny Hair

Are your strands lacking luster? Wash away buildup, seal cuticles, reduce frizz, and stimulate hair growth with an apple cider vinegar rinse. Just a few tablespoons run through your hair after you shampoo will go a long way.

-Facial Toner

Acting as a natural anti-inflammatory for skin, apple cider vinegar can be very handy indeed. Dilute the vinegar with two parts water, douse a cotton ball, and then apply to your entire face for tighter skin and fewer breakouts. ( I added a few drops of essential oil so it didn't have such a strong vinegar smell)

-Weight Loss and Digestion

Can help balance blood sugar levels by lowering the glycemic index of a meal. It is true that the prevention of blood sugar spikes can support weight loss. It has strong anti-fungal properties, and can help fight candida.  ACV supports digestion by providing enzymes and certain acids. The enzymes help support those who do not produce enough enzymes on their own, an all too common issue in this modern day. Take two teaspoons apple cider vinegar in water 15 minutes prior to meals to help get your digestive juices going to prevent indigestion, gas or bloating.

-Salad Dressing

Splash a little bit of this and extra virgin olive oil on your next bowl of leafy greens!

Eat a Slice of This- Sans the Sugar Crash

2:11 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

As Thanksgiving approaches, turkey is typically the talk of the
town. Stuffing, cornbread and cranberry sauce may round out
your main course, but if you're anything like me, you crave
what comes next!

This traditional pie will satisfy your sweet cravings without setting you up for a sugar crash. (xylitol and stevia are the only two natural sugars that do not spike your blood sugar levels) YUM!

Pumpkin Pie with Almond Crust

Almond Crust

• 1½ cups blanched almond flour
• 1 pinch of kosher or sea salt
• 1/2 pinch of stevia or xylitol to very lightly
sweeten (less is more)
• 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Pie
• 1 (15 oz.) can (preferably organic) pumpkin puree
(no sugar or other additives, check the label)
• 3/4 cup “Spoonable” brand stevia or equivalent
OR 2/3 cup xylitol (OR LESS – TASTE IT! Let the
spices do the talking!)
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
• 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
• freshly grated nutmeg (if you have it on hand)
• 4 oz. organic coconut cream
• 8 oz. unsweetened almond milk, original or vanilla
flavor
• 1 slightly cooled almond pie crust (see recipe
below)

Preparation

Almond Crust
Mix dry ingredients. Add extra virgin olive oil and thoroughly combine. Press into glass pie plate.
Bake at 350 degrees for 7 to 8 minutes. You don't want the crust to brown.
Remember to turn up the oven to 425 once the crust is done. You bake the pumpkin pie at this
higher temperature for just the first 15 minutes.

Pie
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
1. Combine all the ingredients. You could use a high speed blender.
2. Pour into a cooled almond pie crust.
3. Bake 15 minutes at 425 degrees.
4. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for an additional 35 - 45 minutes.

Thriving in Life

10:47 AM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

This is one of my absolute favorite words: THRIVE. After meeting with a new client yesterday I have attached more meaning to the word.  To truly thrive in life I feel all aspects need to be in sync, whether that be health (physical or mental), relationships (with yourself, family, friends, coworkers, God or a higher being), financially, and etc.

When one thing is out of whack it can affect the rest. Life is "holistic" in nature.  I know I personally have A LOT to work on but know I feel the best when I am helping and impacting other peoples' lives! I literally feel on top of the world after meeting with clients, giving presentations, events and so forth.  Once you realize your life purpose is when everything seems to come together. The love will overflow, your bank account with be busting at the seams, and you wake up every day happy and ready to make the best of it!

I came across this on Facebook a few days ago and it really resonates with me and the type of person I am. It has been one of my biggest challenges in life. To put myself first and realize I cannot help every single person that crosses my path as much as I would like to. This has caused some major disruption because of my lack of asking for help when I greatly need it!

"If you're an earth Angel, you are obsessed with other people’s happiness. If anyone you love is unhappy, you become upset. You may blame yourself for his or her ...unhappiness, which creates the earth Angel cycle of codependency, where your happiness is dependent upon another’s. And since you cannot control others’ happiness, you feel unable to predict or control your own, as it’s contingent upon someone else.

Earth Angels are usually “conflict-phobic,” meaning that they fear arguments and confrontations. Angry people are the opposite of happy people to an earth Angel. So if faced with such an individual, Earth Angels will shut down and usually comply with the other person’s wishes, feeling at fault if someone is unhappy or angry. They are convinced they have failed in their mission to bring happiness to others. As a result, earth Angels will do practically anything to keep the peace!

Their conflict phobia makes earth Angels targets for manipulative people who take advantage of others’ niceness. Before they learn their earthly lesson about holding boundaries, Earth Angels usually fall under the spell of narcissistic individuals who only care about their own needs.

Earth Angels find themselves in a bind because their life purpose is to bring peace to the world. They are lights sent from heaven to shine peace and happiness and lift others’ consciousness and vibrations—so they’re usually the world’s kindest, nicest, and gentlest people! In fact, they pride themselves on being sweet in the roughest of situations (although Earth Angels do lose their tempers when pushed to their limit).

Earth Angels view themselves as tough, even though they are highly sensitive. They shoulder other people’s burdens and rarely ask for help. If help is offered, they will not accept it. They are afraid of “bothering” anyone."

Maybe you are like this too but I want you to know there are so many people that will help and guide you on your journey.  Take time each day to take small steps to get everything in your life in sync and functioning and pretty soon you will THRIVE!

Be Well!

Dietician's Choice?

7:33 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

Ok, so here it goes! This has been bothering me for awhile now! No wonder everyone is so confused when it comes to their health. I went to a well-known grocery store in the area and was appalled by what I saw. Here is what a registered dietician was promoting.  As you may know I promote things that are closest to nature. I encourage you to do your own research and not just follow the fads and what conventional medicine professionals recommend. If you want to know more I do offer grocery store tours as a service where I will take you around and show you the best foods to buy (that promote healing and health) and which ones that are toxic and full of chemicals you want to avoid. I will even travel to the grocery store where you currently shop!

Promise, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, and other margarine spreads- I tell my clients to count chemicals, NOT calories! Have you ever looked at the ingredient label on margaine as compared to butter? Butter has two ingredients usually- sweet cream and salt. Here is a typical margarine label:

Did you know margarine is one molecule away from being plastic? Partially hydrogenated oils are trans fat!! They try to disguise it has healthy by saying, "made with olive oil".  Here is how margarine is made:

.....manufacturers begin with the cheapest oils-soy, corn, cottonseed or canola, already rancid from the extraction process-and mix them with tiny metal particles-usually nickel oxide.  The oil with its nickel catalyst is then subjected to hydrogen gas in a high-pressure, high-temperature reactor.  Next, soap-like emulsifiers and starch are squeezed into the mixture to give it a better consistency; the oil is yet again subjected to high temperatures when it is steam-cleaned.  This removes the unpleasant odor.  Margarine’s natural color is an unappetizing grey, is removed by bleach.  Dyes and strong flavors must then be added to make it resemble butter.  Finally, the mixture is compressed and packaged in blocks or tubs and sold as health food.
-From Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon

Ants will not even touch it.

Better choice- REAL BUTTER! From grass-fed cows is the best.

Fiber One Cereal 80 Calories- It says right on the box that it contains artificial ingredients. It is packed full of sugar and disregard the fact that is only has 80 calories! Remember what I said about counting chemicals, not calories!!

Special K bars- same as the cereal.  I know this may be new to you, but small changes can make a big difference!

Better choice- Steel cuts oats, protein smoothie, or eggs for breakfast.

I would be more than happy to help educate you and make sure you are choosing the right things for your body! Please contact me if you have any questions at all!! 712.790.5883

Jackie- Uncensored

5:16 PM Jackie Mart 0 Comments

I keep seeing these types of posts on Facebook so I thought I would give you the chance to get to know me on a deeper level! LOL!

10 Things You May Not Know About Me:

1. I'm crafty and creative- I love art; all kinds! I make up-cycled jewelry to wear and to sell.  I usually make homemade gifts and when I get creative it looks like Martha Stewart threw up all over! LOL! That is the only time you will see a mess; otherwise I am an OCD neat freak! I fluff the pillows on the couch in my office after my clients leave...

Here is my pumpkin I painted for Halloween! And I'm in the process of making a holiday decoration to hang on the wall behind my desk.

2. I am afraid of drains... any type and size... bathroom, kitchen, swimming pools, you name it! My younger brother got his toe caught in the baby pool drain when we were little and I have been scared to death of them ever since!

3.When I get excited I start talking really, really loud! And I have a unique laugh that everyone notices! I was very shy when I was a little girl. I sat with my older brother on the bus so this one girl would not pull my hair and make me cry! I was a mommy’s girl and didn't even like staying at my grandparent’s house. Now you can’t get me to shut up! :) I have become quite the people person! Making up for all those years I was quiet!

4. I like driving 4-wheelers, any type of ATV, jet skis, snowmobiles, golf carts, and etc . I am kind of a psycho and people do not like to ride with me! :) I would like to drive a race car before I die!  I am a bad driver.. have gotten 8 speeding tickets, 3 warnings, ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign, and got one  a few years ago before Christmas because I "turned left onto Lyndale Ave between 7 and 9 AM." It was 8:50 am… a TRAP! I also got a ticket on my bicycle in Minneapolis that is now on my driving record... (this story is really funny! Ask me about it!!) I have gotten 7 flat tires in my life total! STUPID CAR! HA! :)

5.I read all of the time. I get my love of books from my MOM! :)

6.My weakness is chocolate covered nuts- peanuts or almonds!

7. I want to have kids someday, but am deathly scared to gain all that weight. (because of my past eating disorder) I always thought it would be fun to be pregnant the same time as one of my friends. Kind of like Father of the Bride 2.. Twins also run in my family.

8. I wake up every day with the mission that I am changing and saving lives. That is my purpose for getting out of bed. My favorite thing to do is make people smile with random texts and photos!

9. I have been so broke that I had to pawn off some of my belongings to pay my rent.

10. I'm also a part time model. When I first moved to Minneapolis  I decided to dabble in this and have loved it ever since! I have done the most random gigs- pillow infomercial, liquor and beer promotions, bodypainting, model for bear scent, clothing photoshoots, runway shows, hair shows, and anything crazy you can think of I have probably done it!

Don't judge after you read this! LOL! I just wanted you to know I am a human being also! Plenty of flaws and imperfections, but that is what makes us all VIP's! ;-)

Be Well!
