What do you do when stress hits? Nothing wrecks healthy eating faster than a crappy day at work…or a sick kid…or an overdue pile of bills…or some other emotional catastrophe.
While your logical mind is calmly and rationally telling you how important it is to stick with the plan and eat healthy…your out of control emotions are screaming at you to wolf down a dozen donuts, a bag of chips, an extra-large pizza, a bottle of wine, and a six-pack of beer. Can you guess who is going to win that argument? Without a pre-existing plan to handle life’s rainy days, your weight loss / getting healthy plans are going to take the occasional beating from your emotions. Here are a few techniques for controlling your emotions when life punches you in the face: Mindfulness (Write in a journal to work through what you are feeling) Prayer (Give it up to God; he IS listening) Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Brain-wave relaxation (They have apps for that) Meditation (I go outside and lay in the grass in the sun) Playing music / singing (Find an upbeat station on Pandora!) Physical activity (Walk, bike, run, yoga, swim, push-ups, sit-ups, box....) Note: All of these techniques may seem different but they all work on the same principles: *They distract you from the emotional thoughts. *They prevent you from obsessing and bring you back into the present moment. *They give you time for the emotions to die down and your conscious mind to regain control. My advice: Find something that works best for you and your unique lifestyle! Accountability WORKS- so if you are looking for someone to keep you on track contact a qualified professional to help you with your eating and health goals! Copyright, 2014, Jackie Mart. I have always been a "neat freak." I guess I have never understood how people can live and function in disarray. I get anxiety when I have too many emails in my inbox... Most people have no idea how much their clutter affects them. It is only when you start clearing it out that you will realize how much better you feel without it! Having Clutter Can Make You Feel Tired and Lethargic Most people who have clutter say they can't even find the energy to begin to clear it. They constantly feel tired. But the stagnant energy that stacks up around clutter actually causes tiredness and lethargy. Clearing it frees up the energy in your home and releases new vitality in your body. Ever notice how much better you feel after you clean your house or clean out a closet? Almost a "freeing" feeling! Having Clutter can Keep You in the Past When all your available space is filled with clutter, there is no room for anything new to come into your life. Your thoughts tend to dwell in the past, and you feel bogged down with problems that have consumed you for some time. Clearing your clutter allows you to begin to deal with your problems and move forward. You have to release the past to create a better tomorrow. I am almost done sorting through and purging things from my old house I no longer need when I was married and I feel so much lighter! Having Clutter Can Affect Your Body Weight A curious fact I have noticed over the years is that people who have lots of clutter in their homes are often overweight. I believe this is because both body fat and clutter are forms of self-protection. By building layers of fat or clutter around yourself, you hope to cushion yourself against the shocks of life, and particularly against emotions you have difficulty handling. It gives you the illusion of being able to control things and prevent them from affecting you too deeply. But this is an illusion. Having Clutter Can Confuse You When you live surrounded by clutter, it is impossible to have clarity about what you are doing in your life. When you clear it, you get fewer colds, you can think more clearly, and life decisions become easier. You also know where everything is when you are organized and spend less time and energy searching for the items you are missing. Being clear of clutter is one of the greatest aids I know to discovering and manifesting the life you want. Having Clutter Can Affect the Way People Treat You People treat you the way you treat yourself. So if you value yourself and look after yourself, people will treat you well. If you allow the junk to mount up around you, you may attract people who mistreat you in some way because subconsciously you will feel that it is what you deserve. Having Clutter Can Make You Feel Ashamed Perhaps you have reached the stage where your home is so cluttered and such a mess that you are ashamed to invite people over and positively panic if anyone turns up unannounced. You can live in lonely isolation with your junk, but wouldn't you prefer to have a good clear-out, repair your self-esteem, and regenerate your social life with confidence? Just a few things to consider! It's time to Spring clean your home, as well as your LIFE! :-) www.care2.com Copyright, 2014, Jackie Mart. Negative people are everywhere!! It's amazing how one person can drag down a whole group! It is very infectious. Sometimes I walk into a room and can feel the negative energy. I truly believe attitude is everything and that what you think about you will attract. Are you constantly worrying about not having any money, your crap job, how you hate yourself, feel like a failure, that your life stinks? You have programmed your mind to think negatively and it will spiral out of control! The power of positive thinking is amazing! I've had alot of ironic situtations where I have concentrated on removing my bad thoughts and all sorts of opportunities have come my way!!
Here are a few actions and tips to help you develop the power of positive thinking:
*Always use only positive words while thinking and while talking. Use words such as, 'I can', 'I am able', 'it is possible', 'it can be done', 'I like myself" and etc.
*Try to disregard and ignore negative thoughts. Refuse to think such thoughts, and substitute them with constructive happy thoughts.
*In your conversation use words that evoke feelings and mental images of strength, happiness and success.
*Before starting with any plan or action, visualize clearly in your mind its successful outcome. If you visualize with concentration and faith, you will be amazed at the results.
*Read at least one page of inspiring book every day.
*Watch movies that make you feel happy.
*Minimize the time you listen to the news and read the papers.
*Associate yourself with people who think positively and are happy!
* Write down your life goals in the present tense. For example: I earn X amount of dollars per year, I own X car, I weigh X amount, I live on a house by the ocean...
*Always sit and walk with your back straight. This will strengthen your confidence and inner strength.
*Walk, swim or engage in some other physical activity. This helps to develop a more positive attitude!!
I copied some of my favorite positive affirmations and hung them up on my door. I try to say them before I leave my apartment in the mornings!
