Food Intolerances

Are you one of those people who can’t keep the weight off no matter what you do? Have you tried diets, doctors, and drugs- all to no avail? You could be suffering from food intolerances! Food intolerances differ from food allergies. Most doctor visits are cases of food intolerances and can be avoided. Learn what they are and how they contribute to inflammation, chronic sinus congestion, stomach problems, skin problems, and weight gain.

As a holistic nutritionist and lifestyle coach, I will support you in taking steps to a healthier and happier you. My goal is to help you create an art of balance in your life. You will also learn how important balance between primary foods (relationships, physical activity, sleep, career and spirituality) and secondary foods (organic food and whole food) is.

Make Peace With Food

There is no one size fits all approach to eating.  Each person is different.  I admit I've hated food for most of my life...I've used and abused it to stuff my feelings, purge them out, and avoided it altogether.  Making peace with food is the best thing you can do for your mind and body. Food is not the enemy!  Think of it as something needed to fuel your body like how a car needs gas to run. You cannot run sufficiently without it. If you would like to learn more about how to develop a healthy relationship with food I welcome you to join my upcoming class on Tuesday, February 27th.

Whether your particular issue is emotional eating, binge eating, disordered eating or you just can't seem to get a handle on the whole nutrition thing, this is an event for you. There are 14 habits that people with healthy relationships with food possess.   During this class I share those habits, teach you how to manage emotional eating and ways you can change your eating mindset towards self love and not self hate. You will also walk away with a clear direction of eating for the healthiest version of you!

The Power of Your Thoughts

Sunday I had the chance to visit my old friend who is a Chiropractor/Holistic doctor in the small town of Carroll, Iowa where I lived 7 years ago! It was wonderful connecting with her again and just what I needed to feed my soul! She is the one who planted the seed and led me to my passion of health and wellness and towards my ultimate goal of owning my own holistic wellness clinic! She reminded me of the Law of Attraction and how my mindset is related to everything in my life.

We are in charge of our lives and our thoughts literally become things! The things we continually think about every day are directly related to our experiences.  Right now is the best time to reflect on the past year and think about what you want your life to look like in 2014.

Goal setting and formulating a plan is critical in achieving the success you dream of! God has a purpose and plan for each of us. I will be working on my own vision/dream board in January and wanted to invite you to my workshop on January 12th from 2-4 PM at Supreme Kitchens in Spirit Lake, Iowa.  Please see more details below!

Come and create the life you have dreamed off!! We will be making dream or “vision” boards that depict what you want your life to look like! I will talk about the Law of Attraction, show you my dream journal, goal setting tips, affirmations, and other tools you can use to draw the things you want in your life to you!! Great start to 2014! Success is at your fingertips. Your wish is YOUR command!!

Law of Attraction

The Law states: I attract to myself, whatever I give my focus, attention, or energy to; whether wanted or unwanted. If you think about being broke, poor, lonely and believe your thoughts guess what? That is exactly what you'll be. This Law applies to your life and every other person's life on the planet. Like all laws, it is impartial and impersonal, which means it works when you want it to and when you don't want it to.

Imagine starting to believe in yourself and your infinite possibilities. Imagine believing you deserve everything you want out of life. Imagine GETTING everything you want out of life!  Once you apply the Law of Attraction ANYTHING is possible!!!

EVENT UPDATE: Free Movie in December Has Been Rescheduled for January

I had a lot of interest in the last movie night that I was unable to show at the Spirit Lake Library.  I have rescheduled it in January at the Estherville Public Library!! Please see below for date and time and be sure to register!

FREE Movie Night

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

6:30-8:30 PM

Estherville Public Library

613 Central Ave.

Estherville, IA 51334

This month we will be watching "Sweet Misery- A Poisoned World." Complimentary popcorn provided with a discussion after!

SWEET MISERY: Aspartame is an artificial sweetener, an additive. And it's a chemical. It's not a natural product, it's a chemical. The molecule is made up of three components. Two are amino acids, the so-called building blocks of protein.

One is called Phenylalanine, which is about 50% of the molecule and the other is Aspartic Acid, which is like 40%. And the other 10% is so-called Methyl Ester, which as soon as it’s swallowed becomes free methyl alcohol. Methanol. Wood alcohol, which is a poison. A real poison.

Excellent documentary showing how dangerous artificial sweetener Aspartame is. From its history, to its effects this video is enough to shock anyone into really looking at the food labels next time they shop. Aspartame is a toxic food that came into the world as an investment by Donald Rumsfeld, while ignoring the deadly effects the tests showed.

Tis the Season of Giving

This afternoon I dropped off all the donations for my little girl I adopted for the Adopt a Child Program in Spirit Lake! I asked my clients to help me out and they were more than generous as you can see! We fulfilled everything on her wish list! I've been focusing more on community outreach and volunteering my time to promote "real" health.  Life is all about giving and serving others!     :-)

My Saturday Night- Wild and Crazy

You would think a young, single woman like myself would be out and about causing trouble on a Saturday night, but I'm not that type! LOL!  Last night I tried out a few natural body care recipes!! I made coconut oil conditioner, toothpaste powder, and an apple cider vinegar facial toner.

This is what I used to make the conditioner: (Just 4 simple ingredients-no chemicals, preservatives, or toxins)

*Coconut Oil
*Lavender essential oil
*Jojoba oil
*Vitamin E Oil

Coconut Oil Conditioner is one of the products you will be able to make at my Non-Toxic Body Care Making Workshop on December 8th! It is from 2-4 PM at Supreme Kitchens in Spirit Lake. I only have 4-5 spots left so please get your tickets soon! This is a kid-friendly event!

Only 5 More Weeks Until Christmas- EEK

Boy, I'm glad we are not exchanging gifts this year! Christmas shopping has always been a stressful time for me because I never know what to buy anyone!! This year we are going to Florida over New Year's for my younger brother's wedding so we opted out of gifts this year in exchange for a little sun and fun!! LOL!

I decided to plan a fun gift making event for December that incorporates the "toxin" aspect of my business! I found the perfect space to have it and would love for you to join me!

Here are the details:

Non-Toxic Body Care Making Workshop

Supreme Kitchens 2230 33rd St. Suite 7 Spirit Lake, Iowa 51360
Sunday, December 8th

Toxins are everywhere! According to the EPA, our indoor environment is 2 - 5 times more toxic than our outdoor environment!!

They lurk in processed foods, medications, bathrooms, Teflon cookware, tap water, makeup, skin, hair, body care products, laundry/cleaning and even on your lawn! Body care products are not regulated and contain ingredients that are linked to: allergies, asthma, ADD, cancer, disease, weight gain, migraines, inflammation, rashes, and more...

Why not give a "clean, " non-toxic, chemical-free personalized gift this year?  As you may know you literally EAT what you put on your skin!! Here are a few options you can choose from at the workshop! All the products contain few ingredients and are completely NATURAL! I will have all the supplies we need, you just need to bring yourself and a few friends! Get all your holiday shopping done in one day! No crowded lines and crabby people! LOL! This is a hands-on class where you will be making your own natural products!

Conditioner
Lotion
Toothpaste
Deodorant

Local Healthy Options!! There are a few- SURPRISE

It has been quite the transition moving back to Northwest Iowa after having easy access to organic and natural foods 5 blocks away in Minneapolis!! I have been searching and there are some great natural options in the surrounding areas.

Grocery Stores:

Wilder Thymes Natural Foods- Spirit Lake, Iowa (this is where I work a few days a week) :-)

Bulk items, snacks, drinks, spices, cooking ingredients, frozen, dairy & gluten-free foods, personal care items, natural cleaning supplies, local/organic beer and wine from all over the world! From Lisa's Lil Bakeshop come sandwiches to go, baked goods and take and bake entrees, and a wide selection of fruits, vegetables & herbs when in season from the organic farm in Wilder, MN.

St. Peter Food Cooperative- St. Peter, Minnesota

I've stopped here a few times on my way back from Minneapolis and LOVE IT! I buy wheatgrass here when I can and they have a very large bulk section and a fabulous deli with fresh foods and a sit down area where you can enjoy your meal!

Pomegranate Market- Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Reminds me of the food co-ops in Minneapolis! Check it out the next time you head to Sioux Falls shopping. Pack a cooler so you can take some food back with you!

Hy-Vee- a few organic and natural items (any location) - I'm not a huge fan of large corporate businesses, but do get a few things there since my office is right next to it! LOL!

New Shoots Farm Store- Emmetsburg, Iowa

I haven't ventured here yet but I've heard great things and they have grass-fed beef! Bakery, store, and cafe.

Restaurants:

Rabab's Neighborhood Bistro- Spirit Lake, Iowa

They have some gluten-free options and fresh made from scratch items! Cute little place and Rabab is a sweetheart!

The Wine Bar and Art Gallery- Arnolds Park, Iowa

I met the owner at the beginning of the summer-love her!  Nice, chill place to have some wine and they serve some healthier, gluten-free appetizers. The art gallery is attached which features local artists' work!

Local Organic Farmers:

Guritz Produce Farm-  Near Superior, Iowa

They offer fresh, organically grown vegetables, fruits and herbs, as well has fresh cut flowers, chickens, turkeys, pheasants, and rabbits. Also find them at the Spirit Lake and Spencer Farmer's Markets!

Endless Possibilities

Today I am feeling very overwhelmed with emotions! So many wonderful things have been happening and I am so grateful! I just got hired to work part-time a few days a week at Wilder Thymes, the natural food store in Spirit Lake. I will be able to help people who are new to natural foods and show them around the store! This will allow me to branch out and meet more people who are looking to incorporate more natural and organic foods into their diet! This is just one of the many things I am thankful for today! Much more to come! :-) I cannot wait to see what else is in store with the seeds I am planting. Things are coming into fruition!

I hope you have a great weekend! I'm off to Minneapolis again to work some modeling promos. Cheers to working hard and paying off debt!

Stay tuned for more exciting news and updates for Optimum Wellness LLC!!
