Sexy Conversation

Over the weekend I had a plethora of "real" in-person conversations! Living alone and not having a typical office job sometimes prevents me from having authentic, meaningful, human interactions! One of the best feelings is talking to my mom for hours about life while I'm back in Iowa, which I've done since my college years. In a world that is bustling with new technology and the latest gadgets it's easy to just shoot a text, email, or social media message instead of having an actual conversation with another human being. The current fast-paced world will swallow you up whole if you do not take the time to slow down, be mindful and intentional, and focus on the relationships with your "real life" family and friends and not your "followers."  The ones who are closest to you deserve the best version of you--present, focused, and your undivided attention, not the sloppy seconds. Cheers to future sexy, real conversations this month!

Jackie's Health Tip of the Week 2/19/17

Stay on Track Over the Weekend:

Stick to your usual sleep schedule: Are you someone who has a firm bedtime during the week only to stay up late and sleep in on the weekends? Changing your sleep patterns could throw off your schedule. (hard to eat breakfast when you get up at noon!)

Just think of all those times you stayed up later than usual, got hungry and ended up eating something unhealthy! Changing your sleep schedule can also make it harder to fall asleep on Sunday night which could set you up for a tired Monday at work!

Getting Saucy this Weekend-Memorial Day Recipe

Many of you will be breaking out the grill just in time for the long holiday weekend! Here is a clean-eating BBQ sauce recipe for your burgers, ribs, steak, or chicken!

Homemade BBQ Sauce-(conventional BBQ sauce has added preservatives, refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup, MSG, artificial colorings, and sodium)

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup xylitol syrup – see below
• 8oz organic tomato sauce or tomato paste
• 1 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (Braggs)
• 1 tablespoon liquid aminos or tamari
• 1½ tablespoons chili powder
• 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1-1½ teaspoon  Himalayan sea salt
• 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Instructions:

Make the xylitol syrup first (below). Measure out about 1/2
cup and save the remainder for another use. Mix the rest of the
ingredients in a bowl until well combined. Add 1/8 – 1/4 cup of
filtered water to get the sauce to the desired consistency. Use over
chicken, as a steak sauce, on bbq chicken pizza (grain-free
crust), etc.

Xylitol Syrup

• 1 cup xylitol
• 1/2 cup water
• 1/4 teaspoon xanthan gum

Combine xylitol and water in a stainless steel sauce pot. Bring
mixture to a boil. Whisk in xanthan gum and return to a boil. Stir
until thickened and remove from heat and cool.
