What Girls Need to Know

There is so much more to a person than their physical beauty! The work I've been doing with girls in the school system and community revolves around this topic. These kids are hurting and we have to build them up! Teach them they are worthy and matter just by being born!

Please CONTACT ME if you would like me to come to your community! I currently travel all over the state of Iowa and Minnesota.

Let go of control and roll with it! Something I have been working on in my own life as well with love, relationships and my career. When I am being open, honest, and vulnerable is when the real connections are made and life just flows!

Self-Love Tip: Validation

Sometimes when we're down we just need to know that we are valid in our feelings but also valid in our lives. It can be hard to see our reality and the positivity in our lives when we're feeling our lowest.

Stashing happy things nearby can help remind us of the good things, even when we don't feel them!

Pictures of things you love: Keeping pictures, physical or digital, of happy things close by can be an easy reminder of the life and love you have. These can be of family, friends, your pets, other people's pets, or even memes that make you smile. Develop an archive of happiness!

Kind words: In college, I kept a collection of positive affirmations on post-its stuck to my mirror. They reminded me that "I'm a beautiful" and "I am loved." It's cheesy, but sometimes we just need to hear those things to feel worthy. This can also come from a friend. Reach out to someone who can give you those kind words when you need them!

Journal: Journals get a bad rap for being flippant diaries, but I think they are a great way to express yourself and also get organized. Keep a journal as a place to vent your frustrations, catalog your accomplishments, or even keep a to-do or ta-da list! A journal is your place to write or draw or explode however you want without any judgment.

We all have bad days. There are depression slumps and anxiety pits that can be debilitating!

People Pleasing

People pleasing is draining. There will ALWAYS be people who dislike something about you. Shower them with kindness and go on living your own life! #lifecoach

My Cute Little Why

This little girl is my inspiration and driving force for what I do! Her name is Ella and she is my 3 1/2 year old niece.  I share my story and self-love message in hopes that no other young girl or woman will have to go through her life with a feeling of inadequacy and self doubt! A few weeks ago she wanted to put on eye-shadow and lipstick when she saw me getting ready. . Then we said positive affirmations in the mirror: “I am beautiful. I am pretty. I am smart. I am funny. I am silly. I am loved. I am strong. I can do anything!!”

National Eating Disorder Awareness week is February 26th through March 4th and I’m currently booking speaking engagements. I can come to your business, school, church, gym, group, or etc.. Please reach out if you are interested!   712.790.5883 or Jackie@OptimumWellnessMN.com

End of the Day

At the end of each day ask yourself these three questions as you lay your head on your pillow:

1. Did I live?
2. Did I love?
3. Did I matter?

Rate yourself from a 1-10 scale for each question.  If it is less than a five re-evaluate what you can do to make it a 10 tomorrow!

This is what life is about! Not just "getting through" each day or working for the weekends! Live each day with a purpose and intention!

Feeling Alone

I can only handle small talk for so long. Tell me about your goals, dreams, what makes you come alive- What you hold back inside that you think people will judge you for. When you vibrate on a different level and have different interests you might feel like the loneliest person in the world....Like being in a marriage where you are growing, evolving, and constantly bettering yourself and your other half is distant and doesn’t open up. You can be surrounded by hundreds of people but if there is no depth or connection to your words you will always feel alone. Seek out those who understand your language.

14 Way to Be Less Lonely

14 Ways to Be Less Lonely in a Busy and Isolating World by Trish Blackwell

  1. Acknowledge that you are lonely
  2. Address your personal social needs – investigate where they are not being met
  3. Disconnect from social media, create non-screen time in your life
  4. Pick up the phone and make more phone calls
  5. Write more hand-written cards
  6. Create more space for people in your daily schedule – even for strangers
  7. Cherish little interactions and mundane conversations
  8. Go out of your way for friend dates
  9. Prioritize communication with your significant other
  10. Connect daily without distraction, face-to-face with your significant other
  11. Communicate your social needs to your partner and support them with theirs
  12. Give of your time, heart or love to someone who might be more lonely than you
  13. Focus less on your to-do list and instead value your day based on the quality of your emotional connections
  14. Share your heart and your story openly – you never know how your vulnerability and openness might inspire someone else to realize that they are not alone. (I felt lonely and like I would never be understood until I read Geneen Roth’s books, which changed my life and gave me hope in my eating disorder.)

The World Needs You

"The world needs you, but it is up to you to figure out in what capacity that will be. Be
bold and humble so that you can share your experiences — your failures and your
triumphs — with others in a way that will encourage and transform them. Your voice is
needed as much as mine. Your story can change lives if you let it. Your passions have a
purpose if you spend some time in introspection to find exactly where and how to
combine what brings you joy, what you are good at, and what the world needs you to
share.

Be thankful for your past, for it is a story that can and will change lives if only you let it."

Feeling Blessed

I received this drawing from an amazing woman I met a few years ago. She comes to most of my Self Love Sister's Meetup Group events and now I proudly call her my friend! She completed a project for me I have been dreading (imputing hundreds of contacts and email addresses into my Constant Contact Database) and hid this picture inside the folder. Needless to say once I found it I was instantly in tears! I never equated sheets of names and email address to all the lives I've changed! Proof that what we do for others and how we treat them DOES indeed make an impact! How we approach those around us is vital to leaving our footprint in the world --which reminds me of a quote I love from Maya Angelou:

Takeaway: I know I've said this before but I'm going to say it again. Do your part. Spread joy not hate. Treat others how you would want to be treated. Leave a POSITIVE legacy behind you when you go! #bethelight

Imperfections

"We all have off weeks. You know, weeks of sheer physical exhaustion, lack of motivation and general funk. When I have weeks like this I feel a bit lost and unfamiliar with myself, and it is easy to get discouraged. My instinct tells me to expect more of myself during such weeks, but the reality is that some weeks we must simply expect something different of ourselves, even if we aren’t sure of things as basic as who we are. It’s okay to be tired; fatigue doesn’t mean you aren’t strong. It’s okay feel off-track for a few days and to not be sure what your goal or purpose is; it doesn’t mean that you aren’t searching or that you won’t find it. And, finally, it’s okay -- and actually essential -- that you love yourself during the times when you don’t feel fully yourself. Accept yourself when you least like yourself and you will have begun to accept the imperfection perfections of your human limitations.

The more we love ourselves through our imperfections and through the times when we feel a bit "off," the sooner we will come to embrace our ridiculous imperfections as a beautiful constant in our lives. Be okay with your imperfect beauty and your imperfect story, because being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect; rather, happiness means that you are able to look past the imperfections in your life." - Trish Blackwell

Love Bombs

I made these as Christmas gifts for some clients and a few friends! Fun, cheap, non-toxic homemade gift you can give to a loved one for Valentine's Day!

DIY Shower Bombs:

INGREDIENTS:
1 Box/Bag (16 oz.) Baking Soda
4 Tablespoons Witch Hazel
Peppermint Essential Oil
Eucalyptus Essential Oil

DIRECTIONS:

Mix baking soda and witch hazel together in a bowl. (It should resemble wet sand. If it's too dry add more witch hazel.) Pour into molds and pack the mixture in as tightly as you can! (I just used a regular ice cube tray.)  Let sit at least 24 hours to dry.  Add 4 drops of each essential oil to the cubes.  Flip the tray over and remove the cubes.  Place in sealed jars or bags!

*To use, simply place a bomb near your feet under warm running water and enjoy the aromatic experience!

Tuesday Thoughts

I've been doing lots of reflecting today and realizing that lack of self love is directly related to how we let others treat us. If you don't treat yourself with love and respect, you will let others treat you poorly. What are you tolerating in your current relationships? Treat yourself with love and kindness and it will transfer outward! Do not let someone get comfortable disrespecting you!

Vulnerability

The last few weeks have a been a little bit rough for my clients and myself. The full moon sometimes affects our emotions and brings things to the surface.  As a life coach, I teach people how to manage and release these thoughts and emotions.  We are so afraid to let people see when we are weak and admit when we don't have it all together.  The deepest relationships happen when we let go of the facet of perfectionism. To let people see everything; be transparent; open up all surfaces of our soul... You don't always HAVE to be strong. Open up your heart to others, tear down your walls and let them in.

"We don’t always have to be strong to be strong.  Sometimes our strength is expressed in being vulnerable.  Sometimes we need to fall apart to regroup and stay on track.  We all have days when we cannot push any harder, cannot hold back self-doubt, cannot  stop focusing on fear, cannot be strong.

There are days when we cannot focus on being responsible.  Occasionally, we don’t want to get out of our pajamas.  Sometimes, we cry in front of people.  We expose our tiredness, irritability or anger.

Those days are okay.

They are just okay.

Part of taking care of ourselves means we give ourselves permission to “fall apart” when we need to.  We do not have to be perpetual towers of strength.  We are strong.  We have proven that.  Our strength will continue if we allow ourselves the courage to feel scared, weak, and vulnerable when we need to experience those feelings."

She Loved Life

Today would have been my special friend, Opal's, 104th birthday! I think about her often, especially around the holidays. I called her my "Adopted Grandma" and guardian angel. She was my role model growing up. So self-less and happy no matter what was thrown her way! I'm reminded of her each and every time I hug someone (She always told me you need at least 6 a day!) but I miss her the most when I'm sad... her random phone calls, hand-written cards, and her heart-warming life stories!

Opal was an avid member of the Catholic Church in my hometown, volunteered at the nursing home when she was much older than all the residents, made amazing homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, sugar cookies, angel food birthday cakes with sticky frosting and sprinkles, drank beer with her pizza, took walks, loved singing, coffee, and was a fashionista-clip on earrings, pearls, broaches, (she let me keep a few-see photo below) and bright lipstick! Such a diva!

She was a big part of our family. Attended all of our Christmas concerts, holiday gatherings, graduations, birthday parties, some sporting events, took my brothers and I to our swimming lessons, and welcomed us into her faith-filled world

My one and only tattoo on my inner left wrist is a permanent memorial honoring her; an angel resembling henna.

Opal was a bright light in my life and the lives of many. My life purpose and mission has been to follow in her footsteps and light the way for others! To spread joy wherever I go! If you are ever in need of an angel ask for Opal! She is the BEST one I know! <3

Happy Birthday Beautiful Soul! XOXO
