Jackie's Health Tip of the Week 3/26/17

Fragrance

Synthetic fragrances are really bad news! If the fragrances in your personal care products come from an organic, natural source such as essential oils, it will be indicated on the packaging. If the only reference to fragrances on the label is the word “fragrance,” then you need to put that nasty bottle back on the shelf!

The term “fragrance” in the US allows manufacturers to omit any reference to the list of ingredients that they used to create the fragrance. So if “fragrance” is listed on a label, there’s no telling what the product contains! There are over 3,100 chemicals used by the fragrance industry to formulate these suspiciously delicious aromas, and most of them are not very human-friendly.

You can easily avoid fragrances by making your own natural products!  I am having a Natural Facial Care Making Workshop in April.  CLICK HERE for more details and to RSVP!

Love Bombs

I made these as Christmas gifts for some clients and a few friends! Fun, cheap, non-toxic homemade gift you can give to a loved one for Valentine's Day!

DIY Shower Bombs:

INGREDIENTS:
1 Box/Bag (16 oz.) Baking Soda
4 Tablespoons Witch Hazel
Peppermint Essential Oil
Eucalyptus Essential Oil

DIRECTIONS:

Mix baking soda and witch hazel together in a bowl. (It should resemble wet sand. If it's too dry add more witch hazel.) Pour into molds and pack the mixture in as tightly as you can! (I just used a regular ice cube tray.)  Let sit at least 24 hours to dry.  Add 4 drops of each essential oil to the cubes.  Flip the tray over and remove the cubes.  Place in sealed jars or bags!

*To use, simply place a bomb near your feet under warm running water and enjoy the aromatic experience!

DIY Citrus Bliss Body Wash

Realized I ran out of body wash so made some of my own last night! Simple with a just a few natural ingredients. Most body washes and hair care products contain many chemicals. Two I will mention are Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate. These are known skin and eye irritants and enhance allergic responses to other toxins and allergens. Can even cause organ toxicity. They are used as lathering agents and detergents, and are present in hundreds of commercial shampoos, body washes, and bubble baths, as well as skin creams and some brands of toothpaste.

Try making your own!

DIY Body Wash

1/2 Cup Castile Soap (I used Dr. Bronner's)
4 Tablespoons Vegetable Glycerin
3 Tablespoons Fractionated Coconut Oil
10 Drops of any essential Oil (I used DoTerra Citrus Bliss)
(I added a teaspoon each of Vitamin E Oil and Jojoba Oil for more moisturizing benefits)

Mix all ingredients together and pour into a BPA-free plastic or glass container.

Boy, I'm glad we are not exchanging gifts this year! Christmas shopping has always been a stressful time for me because I never know what to buy anyone!! This year we are going to Florida over New Year's for my younger brother's wedding so we opted out of gifts this year in exchange for a little sun and fun!! LOL!

I decided to plan a fun gift making event for December that incorporates the "toxin" aspect of my business! I found the perfect space to have it and would love for you to join me!

Body care products are not regulated and contain ingredients that are linked to: allergies, asthma, ADD, cancer, disease, weight gain, migraines, inflammation, rashes, and more...

Why not give a "clean, " non-toxic, chemical-free personalized gift this year?  As you may know you literally EAT what you put on your skin!! Here are a few options you can choose from at the workshop! All the products contain few ingredients and are completely NATURAL! I will have all the supplies we need, you just need to bring yourself and a few friends! Get all your holiday shopping done in one day! No crowded lines and crabby people! LOL! Make Your Own Body Scrub

Here's her easy recipe for a luxurious summer scrub you can make in minutes:

You'll need: 2 tsp. extra virgin olive oil
2 tsp. sweet almond oil
1/2 cup white cane sugar
1-3 drops lavender essential oil

Whisk together the olive oil, sweet almond oil, sugar and essential oil. Pour into a container with an airtight lid. It should last 2-3 weeks if kept away from water (it dissolves the sugar).

Use a tablespoon scoop to dish out a few dollops once or twice a week, scrub, and rinse.

The olive oil is full of vitamins and minerals that can help firm and moisturize (no worries--the smell rinses away). The lavender is great for healing damaged skin like cuts and burns, and regenerating skin cells.

Treat your feet: Swap the sugar for salt for a coarser callous-worthy foot scrub!

I love giving the scrub as gifts!!!
