Feel Energized

Here is another thing I do on a weekly basis for myself!! My Ion Detox Foot Bath! You are probably thinking, "Eww, gross! What is that?!"  For me this is a sign I'm getting the "junk" out of my body!

With the increase in the number of chemicals introduced in the last fifty years, there has been a dramatic increase in incidences of autoimmune disease, allergies and common infections.

There are tens of thousands of chemicals in use today and more than a fourth of these are known to be toxic and nothing is known about their interactive effects. Body fat has been tested that contains residue of hundreds of chemicals. Metals, such as mercury and cadmium are everywhere and impossible to avoid. Lead can block red blood cell formation.

Chemicals can act as toxins that can block receptor sites on cells, and cause changes in calcium homeostasis selectively killing cells, and alter expression of gene products. Metals and chemical toxins weaken the immune system and cause increased vulnerability to virus, bacterial fungal and parasitic infections. In an attempt to detoxify these substances, our bowels, kidneys and liver are being overloaded.

Our eliminative channels have become blocked or dysfunctional, because, in conjunction with these synthetic chemicals, and the western diet that is so acid forming.

To relieve the strains on the kidneys and liver it is more important than ever to maintain a detoxification regimen. The ion foot bath is designed to relieve these strains and help the body re-balance its energy fields allowing organs to function better!

There are many benefits of doing this once a week or even a few times a month.  Here are a few benefits of detoxifying the body:

Probiotics: Do you need them? How is your gut?

Commonly known as “friendly or good bacteria,” probiotics have become widely popular!! One of the most frequently asked for supplements of customers that come into our store are probiotics. Everyone has taken antibiotics at any time in their life even when young has experienced disturbed intestinal balance and will benefit from taking probiotics. Antibiotics kill the good bacteria as well as the harmful ones. The longer you use antibiotics, the greater the damage to the intestinal flora. Symptoms include: indigestion, acid reflux, bloating, constipation, and cramps. Skin problems such as acne, eczema, or psoriasis are also a reflection of intestinal health.

Our bodies are made up of around 27 feet of intestines. Seventy percent of our immune cells are located here. Probiotics populate throughout our intestines and help with digestion, manufacture B vitamins that relate directly to our energy levels. They also strengthen our immune systems and make us less susceptible to colds, flu, and super bugs!!

You can increase the beneficial bacteria in your body by limiting your sugar intake because it feeds intestinal yeast, washing your hands, get regular exercise and sleep to strengthen your immune system, and by eating a daily cup of yogurt, drinking Kombucha, or eating any fermented foods such as: kefir, sauerkraut, tempeh, miso, kimchi, natto, and etc.

I take the Raw Probiotics for Women from Garden of Life. They contain 85 billion live cultures and are food based!! If you have any questions about probiotics please don’t hesitate to ask me!!

H2O-Does Your Body Good! Post 2 of 2

Dehydration Causes:

*Joint Pain-no lubrication
*Stomach pain and ulcers-sluggish digestion
*Back Pain and Muscle Weakness
*Low Energy
*Mental Confusion and Disorientation
*Dry Skin
*Constipation

A mere 2% drop in water levels can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, basic math skills, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen.

Re-hydration occurs faster in the presence of sodium, regardless of whether in a sports drink or food.

There are many factors that influence water needs:

*Exercise-replace water lost from sweat session
*Environment-hot and humid weather
*Illnesses and Health Conditions-fever, vomiting, and diarrhea cause body to lose additional fluids
*Pregnancy or Breast-feeding

We also lose water when we breath-when exhaling from lungs a small amount of water vapor is released.

Water and Weight Loss:

*Appetite Depressant-makes you feel full
*Metabolizes stored fat-reduces fat deposits in body and turns in to energy
*More water helps reduce water retention-helps flush out your system

Water stimulates the kidneys to work. When the kidneys do not function properly without enough water some of their duties get passed onto the liver. The liver works to metabolize stored fat into usable energy, if the liver is helping the kidneys, it cannot do its own job!! Detoxing the body!!

Recommendations:

Let THIRST be your guide! When the body begins to lose 1-2% of total water, your thirst mechanism will kick in and let you know it is time to drink (mistake for hunger)

Be sure to drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day! For example, if you weigh 150 pounds you would need to drink 75 ounces of water each day!

Color of your urine-taking vitamin B12 turns urine bright yellow, it should be very light yellow; deep yellow indicates dehydration

Drink water pre-during-post workout

H2O workout guidelines:
20 oz 2-3 hours before
8 oz 20-30 minutes prior or during warm-up
10 oz every 20 minutes of exercising
8 oz within 30 minutes after exercise
16-24 oz for every pound of body weight lost after exercise

Room temperature-ice cold water can harm delicate stomach lining

Not in plastic bottles-they leach unsafe chemical BPA into water. Use glass or stainless steel water bottles!!

Eat fresh fruit and veggies-contain water

Remember that caffeine is a diuretic and promotes water loss!! Stay away from coffee and soda!
