Not Feeling Motivated?


3 Reason Why You Aren't Feeling Well: 

1. Fatigue: This could be a type of  hangover-affect from not enough self-care: less than ideal diet, not enough sleep, water, downtime, too much sugar, alcohol, caffeine, or etc. 


2. Reaction: Someone was rude to you, you received a negative email or social media comment, horrible traffic, your spouse set you off before you walked out the door... 


3. Ruminating: On the past, mistakes, negative thoughts and self-talk. You are letting doubt stop you. Acknowledge them, forgive yourself, and level up so you can grow! 


How to Fix It: 


Move your body! Change your physical location: go to the gym and exercise, take a quick walk outside, head to a local coffee shop or library. 


Set an intention for the next hour-one thing you can do for a "win" to make you feel better. Examples: Complete one item on your to-do list, send a positive, encouraging text to someone who has helped you, make a list of gratitudes, sign-up for a personal development or fun social event, watch a funny YouTube video, take a long shower, meditate, drink some green juice or a nutritious smoothie!  


Listen to a positive audio-book or podcast! A few of my favorites: The School of Greatness, Earn Your Happy, The Ziglar Show, The Tony Robbins Podcast, Joyce Meyer, Achieve Your Goals with Hal Elrod, The Confidence Podcast, Body Kindness. 


Take ACTION! What are FIVE things you could do TODAY to propel you forward?  


Reach out to a trusted friend or family member for some support!

My Cute Little Why


This little girl is my inspiration and driving force for what I do! Her name is Ella and she is my 3 1/2 year old niece.  I share my story and self-love message in hopes that no other young girl or woman will have to go through her life with a feeling of inadequacy and self doubt! A few weeks ago she wanted to put on eye-shadow and lipstick when she saw me getting ready. . Then we said positive affirmations in the mirror: “I am beautiful. I am pretty. I am smart. I am funny. I am silly. I am loved. I am strong. I can do anything!!”

Feeling Alone



I can only handle small talk for so long. Tell me about your goals, dreams, what makes you come alive- What you hold back inside that you think people will judge you for. When you vibrate on a different level and have different interests you might feel like the loneliest person in the world....Like being in a marriage where you are growing, evolving, and constantly bettering yourself and your other half is distant and doesn’t open up. You can be surrounded by hundreds of people but if there is no depth or connection to your words you will always feel alone. Seek out those who understand your language.

Unfollow


I recently went through my Instagram feed and unfollowed anyone whose profile who didn't spark joy in my life: people who post things of no value to me, personal trainers/models with perfectly chiseled abs who only post gym selfies or workout videos continuously, negative people, and anyone else whose profile I looked at that made me feel bad about myself, triggered my eating disorder mentality, or didn't inspire me. 

Through social networking we're able to connect with a lot of people and even "follow" others who inspire us. The problem with social media is that it is often a highlight reel of every day life, the top moments of our lives. It's easy to compare ourselves to strangers on the internet and to the best styled, perfected, edited, curated moments of their lives. It makes me think of this verse from Proverbs: "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." (4:23).  Especially online, your heart needs to be guarded from those feelings of inadequacy you feel when you look at people's profiles or posts.  You are in charge of guarding your heart, especially when it's in danger of being stabbed often by something that often seems harmless. Remember not everyone has walked the same path as you. 

Does someone's "perfect" body make you feel bad about your own? Unfollow. Does someone else's bragging about their success make you feel like you're way behind? Unfollow. Does someone else's spiteful comments make you feel upset and uncomfortable? Unfollow. Do you follow business "competition" just to spy? Unfollow.  Do you follow friends from high school just to keep up on gossip or to feel better about yourself? Unfollow. Wonder why you followed some people in the first place? Unfollow.  Make your online world a place of inspiration, motivation, genuine connection, positivity, and happiness!! Guard your heart! <3

She Loved Life

Today would have been my special friend, Opal's, 104th birthday! I think about her often, especially around the holidays. I called her my "Adopted Grandma" and guardian angel. She was my role model growing up. So self-less and happy no matter what was thrown her way! I'm reminded of her each and every time I hug someone (She always told me you need at least 6 a day!) but I miss her the most when I'm sad... her random phone calls, hand-written cards, and her heart-warming life stories! 

Opal was an avid member of the Catholic Church in my hometown, volunteered at the nursing home when she was much older than all the residents, made amazing homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, sugar cookies, angel food birthday cakes with sticky frosting and sprinkles, drank beer with her pizza, took walks, loved singing, coffee, and was a fashionista-clip on earrings, pearls, broaches, (she let me keep a few-see photo below) and bright lipstick! Such a diva! 


































She was a big part of our family. Attended all of our Christmas concerts, holiday gatherings, graduations, birthday parties, some sporting events, took my brothers and I to our swimming lessons, and welcomed us into her faith-filled world

My one and only tattoo on my inner left wrist is a permanent memorial honoring her; an angel resembling henna.  



Opal was a bright light in my life and the lives of many. My life purpose and mission has been to follow in her footsteps and light the way for others! To spread joy wherever I go! If you are ever in need of an angel ask for Opal! She is the BEST one I know! <3

Live a Life Full of Joy


This past week I've been focusing on celebrating the "little things" in my life! Practicing gratitude has been the most important part of my recovery and transition from a divorce, eating disorder, depression, and loneliness to a life full of joy.  When you have something to look forward to it makes life worth living! Every day wake up and be thankful you actually woke up! Each breath you take fuels your very existence. 

This week I celebrated many things. Here are a few examples: went snowshoeing in the sun last Sunday, spent time with my parents, booked two Lunch and Learn Corporate Health Talks, bought fresh yellow daisies to brighten up my apartment, received a bonus from a promotional company I work for, paid off my credit card balance, tried a new recipe, got a free car wash with my oil change, scheduled dates with friends, took a nap when I needed to rest and didn't feel guilty about it!  

Start keeping a daily list of your celebrations and your mindset will shift from negative to embracing the positive!

The Power of Your Thoughts

Sunday I had the chance to visit my old friend who is a Chiropractor/Holistic doctor in the small town of Carroll, Iowa where I lived 7 years ago! It was wonderful connecting with her again and just what I needed to feed my soul! She is the one who planted the seed and led me to my passion of health and wellness and towards my ultimate goal of owning my own holistic wellness clinic! She reminded me of the Law of Attraction and how my mindset is related to everything in my life. 

We are in charge of our lives and our thoughts literally become things! The things we continually think about every day are directly related to our experiences.  Right now is the best time to reflect on the past year and think about what you want your life to look like in 2014. 


Goal setting and formulating a plan is critical in achieving the success you dream of! God has a purpose and plan for each of us. I will be working on my own vision/dream board in January and wanted to invite you to my workshop on January 12th from 2-4 PM at Supreme Kitchens in Spirit Lake, Iowa.  Please see more details below!

Law of Attraction

The Law states: I attract to myself, whatever I give my focus, attention, or energy to; whether wanted or unwanted. If you think about being broke, poor, lonely and believe your thoughts guess what? That is exactly what you'll be. This Law applies to your life and every other person's life on the planet. Like all laws, it is impartial and impersonal, which means it works when you want it to and when you don't want it to.

I've Learned

Inspiration for Blog

I recieved an email last week from an old high school friend that will remain anonymous. Here is what she sent me in a facebook message:

Hi Jackie,
I just wanted to let you know, that I find your status' very inspiring and uplifting. I have been struggling with alot of stuff latey and it's nice to read something once in awhile that doesn't make things worse. So, thank you!

I hope everything is well with you and that you had a great birthday! It sounds as if you are always busy up in the cities, hopefully not too busy and you're still able to enjoy yourself.

Thanks again for being inspiring.


These kind words really made my day and are the inspiration/idea of this blog I have created. I had no idea I had this impact on people; I just have realized I need to live in the moment more and be more positive, which is why my facebook statuses are usually focused on the great things in life!

Those of you who know me well and have kept in touch know I have been dealing with my own demons in life for years and this is just one example of how we affect each other on a day to day basis whether it be a smile, an "I love you," a call, text, a hug, kind words, gift, or a listening ear. It's all in your attitude towards life. Too many people wallow in their problems and are more focused on their flaws, weaknesses, and what is wrong in their lives that they are not grateful for what they DO have!! Cherish your imperfections and work on improving your strengths!! Stop feeling guilty and shameful and forgive yourself already!!!! :)

Someone once told me I am like a "skinny Buddha!" hahah ;) Hope you all have a wonderful day!
