End of the Day

At the end of each day ask yourself these three questions as you lay your head on your pillow:

1. Did I live?
2. Did I love?
3. Did I matter?

Rate yourself from a 1-10 scale for each question.  If it is less than a five re-evaluate what you can do to make it a 10 tomorrow!

This is what life is about! Not just "getting through" each day or working for the weekends! Live each day with a purpose and intention!

Haunt: To Have a Disquieting or Harmful Effect On

There are many triggers I encounter on a daily basis which lead me back to a place where I would rather not be.  (My eating disorder haunts me).

This morning I got up at 5:00 AM to make the 6:00 AM cycle class at Cyclebar in Uptown Minneapolis.  There was a very thin girl positioned a few bikes down from me.  I have no idea if she was just naturally thin, had health issues, or an eating disorder (You can NEVER make assumptions just from someone's appearance) but I saw my former 103 pound self sitting there on that bike... My mind flashed back to my rail thin days.  Attending multiple fitness classes a day along with running and biking outdoors the same day use to be my norm.  Part of me wished I was tiny like her again and the other half of me was thankful I am not! My physical body looks different now than my sickly disordered former self.  Gaining weight has been the most frustrating and humbling thing about recovering from an eating disorder.  Everyone else talks and posts about their weight loss while you have gained... It's one of the toughest mountains I've been climbing the last few years along with battling some digestive issues. Some days I feel like a warrior and others, well, not so much....

I felt compelled to share this photo of me on Halloween dressed as a red Skittle. It popped up as one of my Facebook memories and I wanted to add it to this post.  I remember my friend Leighann taking this photo of me at her house party. I felt bloated and fat that night but as you can see I was far from it! (body dysmorphia at it's finest)

I admit I still have work to do mentally with truly loving and accepting myself as I am and hope my story inspires others who may be struggling!  Remember to take one day at a time and surround yourself with people who lift you up! It makes all the difference!

Sending you love and light!

The Power of Forgiveness

"Forgiveness allows us to be fully present in this moment, right here, right now. Forgiveness enables us to wholeheartedly embrace what is and to be at peace with our past and fully engaged with the present. Making peace with our past is the most immediate way we can experience the abundance that is our birthright. Without forgiveness there is always something pulling us out of alignment with ourselves and with life; it is an energy drain in our system.
Until we have made perfect peace with all that has occurred in our life, and with all the people who have played a part in it, we deny ourselves the full richness of our true abundance. Forgiveness is a gift we give to ourselves. It frees up the energy we had invested in making another, or ourselves, wrong. Ultimately, forgiveness is letting go of the illusion that something actually ever went wrong." - TJ Woodward

The Power of Podcasts

Road trips are good for catching up on my podcasts!  Here are just a few I listen to. Each one has a unique purpose and message.  I prefer the ones that are only about 20-30 minutes in length and tend to listen to them when I am at the gym or in my car. They keep me focused, energized, motivated, and positive about the future!  Even a life coach needs a little pep talk every once in awhile!  What podcasts do you listen to? I'm always looking for new ones! Please share!

Light A Fire Within Me

I grew up volunteering with my mom at our church and through my local 4-H Club; I haven't stopped since then!  Volunteering and helping others lights a fire within me! Saturday I spent the day volunteering for a non-profit organization that is dear to my heart: Saving Grace Village.

Saving Grace Village was founded in 2010, and offers adolescent girls the opportunity to discover their gifts through creative expression. Saving Grace Village hosts weekend retreats at the Audubon Center of the North Woods, a 535-acre sanctuary on Grindstone Lake near Sandstone, Minnesota, where adult mentors lead girls through a variety of activities so they can explore what gives them energy and joy. The volunteers support participants by encouraging them, listening to them and letting them know they are not alone.

I was naturally in charge of the fitness and health portions of the retreat and led a BURST Training Boot Camp workout and talked to the girls about what it means to be healthy. We then made "Banana Sushi" as a healthy snack.   I love seeing the girls smile and have fun trying new things. I want to instill a sense of self-worth, self-love, and self-confidence in them to give them the strength to follow their true passions and dreams!

The Fastest Way to Kill Your Happiness

Stop over-analyzing and worrying! Place trust in your life purpose and your path. Some things are out of your control. Let them go! Shake those limiting beliefs away and believe you are meant for greatness. Keep your thoughts in check and re-focus when needed!

Another Year

Tomorrow marks one year since I moved back to Minneapolis from Iowa.
(Read about my Iowa experience here: http://www.jackieamart.blogspot.com/2014/03/1-year.html  )

Strange thinking I've been back a year already.  I've taken many steps back in life but have managed to keep moving forward. I may not be where I want to be yet, but each new day is a day I am thankful to be alive! My new mission is that of self love. Whether it be doing more things I enjoy, giving myself permission to rest and relax, spending time with family and friends, or loving and accepting my body as it is. Every day is a chance to inspire and encourage others to do the same!

I've had so much shame and guilt over the years and worried about what others thought of me.   Now I'm pretty fearless and it feels GREAT! Wednesday night I modeled for my friend's photography workshop.  Here is one of the photos. FIERCE. WARRIOR. STRONG. PROUD. CONFIDENT. This is me, taking back my life again!

10 Ways to Love Yourself

1. Wake up and choose to be happy. (Sometimes I struggle with this myself. March was not a great month for me. I've found out it helps to keep a gratitude journal daily. I use an app on my phone and write in it right before I go to sleep) Gratitude 365 App

2. Exercise. create a schedule each week. Stick to it. Ask your friend to join you. Try a new class. Get outside in the sunshine!

3. Eat. Healthy foods. Every 3 hours so you are not starving and end up binge eating at night when you get home from work. Eat clean, unprocessed foods that give you energy and fuel your body. Break the sugar addiction. There are people that can help! Ask.

4. Set Boundaries. Just because someone wants you to do something doesn't mean you have to do it. Think about how it makes you feel. Self love is about honoring yourself, listening to your body, and knowing what is best for you. It's not being selfish; there is a big difference!

5. Sleep. get 8 hours every night. I know I am an emotional wreck when I'm overly tired and life just seems so much harder! Try to go to sleep at 10:00 PM and wake up at 6:00 AM. Those hours are ideal and allow our body to repair itself both physically and psychologically.

6. Say Affirmations. Here are a few of mine. You can easily make up your own that are more prevalent to you.

"I listen to by body and its needs. I eat foods that are healthy and nourishing to my body and soul. I seek the perfect amount of food to keep my life force high."
"I love myself. I am happy, healthy, and whole."

"I forgive myself. I am made for more. ED (Eating Disorder) no longer rules my life."

"I am enough. I have enough. I do enough. I have everything I need in this moment."

7. Do what you love. You spend most of your life working. Make sure you love what you do! Find out what you life purpose is and roll with it! Your strengths and interests are key!

8. Rest. I've always been a go-getter, perfectionist, over-achiever. I need to constantly remind myself that it's okay to take breaks and do nothing. Life is all about BALANCE.

10. Fill your life with positive, encouraging people!

Monday Minute

"The best way to enjoy the present moment and avoid undue stress is to refuse to let every little thing upset you. In other words, choose your battles, and don't make mountains out of molehills. Before you devote your time, energy, and emotion to an issue or situation, ask yourself two questions:
1. How important is it?
2. How much of your time, effort, and energy is really appropriate for you to put into it?

Know what really matters in life, and focus on those things. Learn the difference between major matters and minor matters."
